At least 15 people have sadly died in a collision between a bus carrying older passengers and a truck in Manitoba, Canada. The event occurred close to Carberry, to the west of Winnipeg, on the Trans-Canada Highway. According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), 10 people, including both drivers, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
An observer named John Proven described the situation as a "big crash" with a car on fire and a large truck close by, its front badly broken. The bus was taking older people from Dauphin to the Sand Hills Casino in Carberry when the sad accident happened. Emergency services, such as a helicopter ambulance and 12 other ambulances, were sent out promptly.
Officials are still trying to figure out why the bus went into the lane of the truck, but video evidence indicated that the truck had the legal right to be there. RCMP Superintendent Rob Lasson stressed that no one has been blamed yet because the investigation is still in progress.
This incident is being compared to the 2018 Humboldt Broncos bus crash in Saskatchewan, where 16 people lost their lives. Officials in Manitoba have asked for help from those who worked on the Humboldt investigation because the two incidents are similar.
