I created this recipe by experimenting. I really enjoy apple pies, but sometimes I don't have time to make the crust. That's why I created this recipe. The recipe is simple and fast to prepare. When served warm with ice cream, it makes a great dessert to enjoy with company. As you can see, my husband didn't wait for me to take a picture before starting to eat.
I found a recipe that sounded delicious, and since my husband loves apple crisp, I decided to make it. I didn't taste very good, a bit plain. The writer instructed to pour the topping over the apples, but it was too sticky and thick. I had to use a big spoon to spread it on the apples. The topping didn't have a strong taste. I probably won't do it again.
- I prepared this dish yesterday and I was not happy with how it turned out. As some people had mentioned, the topping was very thick. However, since this recipe had received a lot of praise overall, I assumed that was how it was supposed to be because the staff didn't comment on the dense topping. (I don't mean to be rude, but I have never seen any bad reviews of the Test Kitchen.) I used 4 very big Granny Smith apples and a pie plate that is 8 inches deep. I didn't like the final result, and neither did my family. Even with many apples, there was too much topping and it was not sweet enough. Like others have said, I like apple crisp with a crumb topping.
