Clove Water Sitz Baths

Ingredients:

  • 1–2 tbsp whole cloves (not ground—less messy!)
  • 4 cups (1 liter) filtered or distilled water
  • Optional: 1 tbsp sea salt or baking soda (for added soothing)

Instructions:

  1. Simmer the Cloves
    • In a small pot, combine cloves and water.
    • Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and simmer 10–15 minutes.
    • Remove from heat; let steep 30–60 minutes (the longer it steeps, the stronger the infusion).
  2. Strain Thoroughly
    • Pour through a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove all clove particles.
    • Let cool to warm (not hot)—around body temperature (98–100°F / 37°C).
  3. Use in Your Sitz Bath
    • Pour the strained clove water into your sitz bath basin or bathtub.
    • Add clean, warm water to reach the recommended level (usually 3–4 inches deep).
    • Soak for 15–20 minutes, 1–2 times daily.
💡 Pro Tips:
  • Never use essential oil of clove directly in sitz baths—it’s too concentrated and can irritate sensitive skin.
  • Always do a patch test first if you have sensitive skin.
  • Use fresh infusion daily—don’t store for more than 24 hours.

When to Use a Clove Sitz Bath

  • After vaginal childbirth (once cleared by your provider)
  • For hemorrhoid relief
  • Post-anal fissure or minor surgery
  • General perineal irritation or chafing

Safety & Precautions

  • Do not use if you’re allergic to cloves or spices.
  • Avoid during active bleeding unless approved by a healthcare provider.
  • Never add undiluted essential oils—they can cause chemical burns.
  • Discontinue use if you experience stinging, redness, or increased pain.
