Get your workspace ready.
Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper to make cleaning up easier.
Heat the peanut butter mixture until it becomes liquid.
In a bowl that can be used in the microwave or on the stove in a pot, mix together peanut butter, butterscotch chips, and butter.
Heat the mixture in the microwave on medium heat for 30 seconds at a time, or on low heat on the stovetop. Stir well after each 30-second interval until the mixture is completely melted and smooth.
Mix the powdery ingredients together.
Put the chow mein noodles in a big bowl. If you have marshmallows or peanuts, put them in the bowl.
Combine all the ingredients.
Pour the melted peanut butter mixture over the chow mein noodles and any other ingredients you have. Stir softly until everything is well covered.
Create the Haystacks.
Use a spoon to place small amounts of the mixture on the baking sheet. Shape them into haystacks as you do this.
Allow them to settle down.
Let the haystacks cool down at room temperature for around 1 to 2 hours. If you're in a rush, you can put them in the fridge for half an hour.
Serve and enjoy:
Once the haystacks are completely formed, they are ready to be enjoyed. Keep any extra food in a sealed container either on the counter or in the fridge for a week.
